Reactivating Your Tire Pressure Light

If you blew up your tires the tire pressure light is usually off. The button is under the steering wheel. In case you can’t locate it, read the user manual. If it remains on, there are some things you can do:

  • Drive at least 50 mph for 10 minutes. This will reset the sensor. It will also reset the car the next time you start it.
  • When the car is off, turn the key in the ignition to the on position. But don’t start the car. Instead, press the TPMS reset button until the tire pressure light blinks three times. Then let go of the button. Now you can start the engine and wait for 20 minutes. This is because the sensor needs to reboot.
  • It is suggested that tires be inflated to 3 PSI over the usual size. Do that and then deflate them. This includes the spare tire because it may have a sensor too. So after they are flattened inflate them to the recommended size.
  • Continue with the engine shut off. Detach the positive battery cable with a wrench. Then start the vehicle and honk the horn for three seconds. This drains the power in the car. Go ahead and attach the battery.
